Foreword by the Festival Director

The Indonesian film industry has just made history with the number of local film viewers surpassing foreign films, reaching an impressive figure of more than 60 million viewers as of September 2024. This achievement shows that the quality of Indonesian film production is increasing, accompanied by the growth of new talents, the development of creativity, and the improvement of supporting production facilities. This dynamic, growing and developing movement forms a group of interconnected echoes, forming waves that strengthen each other to be more visible, heard and recognized. And Jakarta Film Week wants to be part of the echo that plays a role in the joint movement to strengthen Indonesian cinema. This is what inspired us to choose RESONANCE as this year’s theme.

Jakarta Film Week is back, becoming a hub for various elements in the ecosystem, and making connectivity a creative-global collaboration. Because collaboration is crucial in today’s film industry. Therefore, JFW continues to strengthen and develop collaborative programs with various partners, both national and international, one of which is the JFW NET Industry Program, as a forum to update the development of the film industry which is moving very dynamically, so that we are not left behind by global developments. Through a series of programs including; Producer Lab, Festival Meeting, Pitching Forum, Business Forum, and MasterClass.

Likewise, we celebrate collaboration in the process of creating works that are increasingly dynamic, colorful, and cross borders between countries. The opening and closing films of this year’s Jakarta Film Week are a celebration of collaboration and synergy of dynamic movements of creativity, innovation, and regeneration that resonate to form echoes that echo meaningful stories, reflect creativity, innovation, inspire and foster a love of cinema.

On behalf of the entire team, we express our appreciation and gratitude to the DKI Jakarta Provincial Tourism and Creative Economy Office for their full support in organizing Jakarta Film Week. And to all partners who collaborate to support this year’s Jakarta Film Week.
