Foreword by the Festival Director

Jakarta, the epicenter of Indonesian cinema, is a city where the film industry thrives. Jakarta Film Week serves as a festival that brings together Jakarta and cinema, providing a space for local and international cinema to meet, exchange knowledge, and information, and, most importantly, connect with its audience.

This year, Jakarta Film Week adopts the theme ‘EVOLVE,’ a word that reflects the ever-evolving nature of cinema. The spirit of EVOLVE is also manifested through various programs aimed at nurturing new talents in the film industry. These include the Jakarta Film Fund, Producers Lab, and the organization of Masterclass Director sessions featuring Takashi Shimizu and Ouchi Yashusi, highlighting our commitment to the development of film genres in Indonesia. We also have a Masterclass Acting session with Christine Hakim as a celebration of her five-decade journey in the film industry.

Marking Indonesia’s chairmanship of ASEAN in 2023, Jakarta Film Week also focuses on regional cinema through the ‘Celebration of ASEAN Cinema’ program, followed by a Festival Meeting that brings together organizers of International Film Festivals in Southeast Asia. It aims to create greater opportunities for the growth of the film industry.

On behalf of our entire team, we express our appreciation and gratitude to the Department of Tourism and Creative Economy of the Jakarta Provincial Government for their full support of Jakarta Film Week. We also extend our gratitute to all our collaborative partners who supported Jakarta Film Week this year.

Let us celebrate the achievements of creativity and new ideas and embrace the diversity presented through the films we showcase. Join us in being a part of this collaboration, synergy, and the spirit of EVOLVE.
