Syamsiah and Pandi live a simple yet fulfilling life. Together with their children and grandchildren, they enjoy a peaceful existence in Sepaku, North Penajam Paser, East Kalimantan. But that peace is disrupted by news that Indonesia’s new capital city will be built in their homeland. Heavy machinery now rumbles past their home. The noise of construction vehicles has become inescapable. A greater threat looms: the development project threatens to seize their land and water. How will their lives unfold amid these growing uncertainties?
Mahatma Putra is an Indonesian documentary filmmaker currently based in Bali, Indonesia. He received a one year fellowship from the PPIA-Voice of America in Washington DC before he co-founded Anatman Pictures in 2013, a versatile documentary & commercial production house that since then has already received numerous local and international awards. Putra’s documentary style combines mindfulness practice to bring audiences to reflect on what everyone can contribute with their small daily actions.
