The final day of Jakarta Film Week 2024 came to a lively close with an interactive children’s animation program in collaboration with Indonesiana TV. This event not only offered quality viewing but also creative activities designed to strengthen family bonds.
Representing Indonesiana TV, Eny Firsa opened the event, highlighting that children’s animations, such as Desa Timun, are among Indonesiana TV’s flagship programs. The program aims to enhance early childhood literacy through audio-visual media, and the partnership with Jakarta Film Week 2024 is a step towards delivering educational content for young audiences and families.
Desa Timun tells the story of the daily lives of three sibling deer, Cila, Cili, and Cilo, in a rural village. Their stories cover activities from playing and creating to lighthearted fun, presented through a unique concept called aniwayang, which combines wayang puppetry with animation. This technique lends a distinctive character to the series, setting it apart from typical children’s animations.
The Desa Timun series has garnered numerous awards both domestically and internationally, including Best Animated Short Film at the 2022 Indonesian Film Festival (FFI), the Kineko Film Festival in Japan, and the San Diego International Children’s Film Festival. The series is also available for viewing on Indonesiana TV’s cultural channel.
At Jakarta Film Week 2024, Desa Timun featured a special screening of three episodes to entertain young viewers: the episodes Ball, New Chicken Coop, and Cucumber. The playful antics of Cila, Cili, and Cilo delighted the young audience throughout the screening.
In addition to watching the episodes, children were invited to participate in various activities, such as Timun Exercise, where they danced along with characters Cila, Cili, and Cilo, as well as a wayang-making activity featuring Cila that they worked on together with their parents. Before entering the screening room at Galeri Cipta, Taman Ismail Marzuki, each child received a wayang-making kit from the event organizers.
The children’s animation program concluded with a wayang play session in front of a large projector screen, allowing children to animate their wayang Cila puppets alongside their parents. Even the chicken character from Desa Timun made an appearance, adding to the festive atmosphere.
The program provided a warm and joyful conclusion to Jakarta Film Week 2024, held across five days from October 23 to 27 at three venues: CGV Grand Indonesia, Taman Ismail Marzuki, and Mercure Hotel Cikini. Jakarta Film Week will continue to bring engaging and inclusive programs in the coming years.
