In recent years, Indonesia’s animation industry has shown significant growth, technically, narratively, and in its contribution to the national creative economy. However, many still perceive animation merely as children’s entertainment, rather than a storytelling medium with artistic depth and economic value equal to live-action films. This talk aims to open new perspectives: that animation is not just a form of entertainment, but a new cinematic language in Indonesian filmmaking. Through animation, the richness of local comics, myths, and folklore can be reimagined with modern visual approaches that appeal to younger generations, while also carrying immense cultural and economic potential. Such development supports the rise of local IPs toward international markets, driving a stronger and more sustainable creative economy ecosystem.
