Chilean filmmakers and stop-motion artists Cristóbal León and Joaquín Cociña (both born 1980) have collaborated since 2007. After studying visual arts at Universidad Católica de Chile, León pursued further training in Berlin and Amsterdam. Their experimental style combines photography, drawing, sculpture, and performance, using papier-mâché figures and naïve drawings to confront heavy themes like religion, sexuality, and death. Their acclaimed debut feature, The Wolf House (2018), won the Caligari Prize at the Berlin Film Festival and screened worldwide. They later won an award at the Venice Film Festival for their short The Bones (2021) and premiered The Hyperboreans at Cannes in 2024. Based in Santiago, their works have been exhibited at prestigious institutions including MoMA and Tate.
