In a conservative and swampy Brazil, a birthday party is held at a fatherless home. Joana, the birthday girl, wishes to get her period soon. Her older brother, Dudu, wishes his father would come home. When teenager Verbena arrives at the house unannounced, all the wishes can come true. But not without some pain.
Laís Santos Araújo, born in 1993, is a screenwriter and director from Maceió, Brazil. Her work has been featured in Brazilian and international festivals. Her first feature screenplay, "Marina," was supported by the Hubert Bals Fund (Netherlands) and won the Best Script Award at the Holland Film Meeting. She also coordinates the education project Sala de Rotei-ros/Aguda Cinema, a film program for her hometown community.
