From her tiny house in Saigon’s District 4, 101-year-old Ngoai runs an illegal card game, a traditional Vietnamese pastime, to survive in the margins. With her loyal cat and the support of neighbors, she navigates hardship, demonstrating resilience and strength as a beloved figure in her community.
Sally Tran is a New York City-based writer and director from Vietnam and New Zealand. Her films have premiered at Tribeca, SXSW, and TIFF, with work recognized by festivals worldwide. Her latest films include Born To Kill and Grandma’s Four Colour Cards. A Berlinale Talents alum, she is currently completing the short Film Love Cycle, Sponsored by Netfix and NALIP.
