Madrim, a poor porter who was left by Ima, his wife, feels that his life is miserable and that his prayers are never answered. He prays threateningly to God for wealth, so that his wife would return. Suddenly he has an advantage and ends up rediscovering his wife who turns out to be a prostitute.
Hanung Bramantyo was born in Yogyakarta, 1975. He graduated from the Faculty of Film & TV, Jakarta Arts Institute. He won the Best Director award at the 2005 and 2007 Indonesian Film Festivals. His films highlight both sides of politics, and with his right-wing films being more commercially successful, he is also interested in left-wing ideology.
