Layar Animasi Anak Indonesiana TV: Thriving Animation in Our Homeland

Unlike last year’s lineup at Jakarta Film Week, this year the festival presents a special screening for children’s animation, supported by Indonesiana TV. Three selected short animated films for children premiered at Jakarta Film Week 2024: Banti Rego, Kwartet Gupala Sang Jagawana, and Kesatria Semesta.

Indonesiana TV is a multi-channel media platform that shares public knowledge and information about Indonesia’s living culture. Through the Indonesiana Culture Channel, the platform aims to help build a cultural ecosystem that unites Indonesians in diversity, joy, openness, and equality.

This was showcased through the screening of three animated films for children, each uniquely highlighting Indonesian culture. The audience, mostly children accompanied by their parents, filled Audi 3 at CGV Grand Indonesia and enjoyed the charming animations.

Adityo Baharmoko, director of Benti Rego, shared that the animation took only three months to complete, as he had prepared the storyline, concept, and characters well in advance before submitting his work to Indonesiana TV.

For Dieky Suprayogi, filmmaker of Kwartet Gupala Sang Jagawana, the screening of his animation at Jakarta Film Week presented an opportunity to encourage other animation creators in Indonesia to continue producing children’s animations that reflect Indonesian identity.

Yudhatama, director of Kesatria Semesta, expressed a similar sentiment, feeling proud to see his work on the big screen. He hopes that the special children’s animation screening will continue to be a part of Jakarta Film Week in the years to come.

Adityo, Dieky, and Yudhatama all agreed that the value of children’s animation lies in storytelling and cinematography. When the storyline is engaging and entertaining, the animation itself becomes a supporting element of the entire film. They believe it’s essential to understand their goals, prioritize tasks, and recognize their own limitations in producing an animated film to meet deadlines without compromising on quality.

Before closing the event, Candra from Indonesiana TV added that anyone could create animations and submit them to Indonesiana TV. However, it is preferable for submissions to be made by a registered team or studio for legal and intellectual property purposes.

Candra emphasized that animations are best when they deeply reflect Indonesian values, interpreted by each team or studio. He hopes that the introduction of Indonesiana TV through Jakarta Film Week will represent Indonesian animators and encourage more young talent and animation studios to continue growing, so the Indonesian animation industry can thrive.

“If we want our shows to stand out, we must return to our roots and be more attuned to our unique qualities. From that uniqueness, we can find the key to success in the Indonesian animation industry,” concluded Candra.
