Premiere of You Will Die in 6 Hours in Indonesia Welcomed Warmly by Fans

Jakarta Film Week 2024 hosted the Indonesian premiere of You Will Die in 6 Hours, a South Korean film, on Friday, October 25, 2024. Though it premiered last week in South Korea, the film is set for commercial release in Indonesia on October 30, 2024.

The screening drew high enthusiasm from festival attendees, resulting in long queues at CGV Grand Indonesia. A significant factor behind this excitement was the appearance of Jaehyun, a member of the popular group NCT, who portrays the character Jun Woo in the film.

However, the storyline itself is also compelling and highly anticipated. You Will Die in 6 Hours is a mystery-thriller that follows Jun Woo, a man who can foresee the future. Using his ability, he approaches a woman named Jung Yoon, warning her that she will be fatally stabbed within the next six hours, coinciding with her 30th birthday. Initially skeptical, Jung Yoon begins to investigate the identity of her would-be killer to avoid her fated death. Racing against time, she seeks to uncover whether Jun Woo is truly there to protect her or if he has ulterior motives.

Audiences can expect an engaging narrative filled with thrilling twists and stunning cinematography. Jaehyun’s performance, in particular, frequently captured the audience’s attention, with fans of NCT (NCTzens) eagerly cheering for his portrayal of Jun Woo.

Director Lee Yun Seok shared that the film’s concept is based on a Japanese novel by Kazuaki Takano, which was first published in 2007. As the novel is set in Japan, the story underwent a localization process to resonate with South Korean society and its current social context.

Lee Yun Seok explained that while the novel emphasizes the mystery genre, he wanted the film adaptation to delve deeper into the human relationships, opting for a slower narrative pace. The director cast Jaehyun and Park Ju Hyun for their youthful energy, noting Park’s rising-star status in Korea and Jaehyun’s debut in a leading film role.

Lee Yun Seok remarked that the production process went smoothly, with the actors working well together. From the start, Jaehyun showed commitment to the role, even confirming his interest while reading the script aboard a plane.

During a Q&A session at Jakarta Film Week 2024, Director Lee Yun Seok shared insights about working with Jaehyun, who, as an idol, carried a certain walk that stood out. To better suit Jun Woo’s character, Lee asked Jaehyun to walk more naturally, as his usual “cool” gait didn’t align with the role. The film also features a notable use of light blue costumes, inspired by Alice in Wonderland.

Audience members brought diverse expectations to the screening—some had high hopes due to the trailer and Jaehyun’s presence, while others came with no particular anticipation as it marked his film debut. Regardless of initial expectations, viewers agreed that You Will Die in 6 Hours was an impressive film with outstanding performances. One attendee even expressed hope for a sequel and voiced support for more films featuring idols.
