Jakarta, 27 October 2024<\/b> \u2013 Jakarta Film Week 2024 closes on Sunday, 27 October 2024, full of celebratory spirit through the <\/span>Closing Ceremony<\/i><\/b> attended by key figures in cinema, filmmakers, and hundreds of enthusiastic viewers. <\/span>Fadli Zon<\/b>, the Minister of Culture in Indonesia opens the ceremony with a speech of appreciation and support for this festival.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cThe new government has a commitment to drive our cultural endeavours forward, especially in cinema. Jakarta Film Week has become a great forum for introducing Indonesian films to the international scene,\u201d he says. \u201cWe from the Ministry of Culture will support and facilitate the development of Indonesia\u2019s film industry, so that films become an integral part of our culture as well as an international diplomatic tool,\u201d he adds.<\/span><\/p>\n

The Head of Tourism Industry of DKI Jakarta,<\/span> Iffan<\/b>, also praises the festival. \u201cJakarta Film Week can be summarized in two words: absolutely amazing. The audience have given us nothing less than their biggest welcome for the whole week. Seeing this, we can hope for a much more enthusiastic energy next year,\u201d he says.<\/span><\/p>\n

Ever since the festival\u2019s debut, there has been a steady increase in enthusiasm. It is no wonder that in this fourth year, film practitioners and cinephiles look forward to Jakarta Film Week.<\/span><\/p>\n

Rina Damayanti<\/b>, the Festival Director, highlights the young crowd\u2019s enthusiasm towards Jakarta Film Week has grown. <\/span>\u201cThis year, we are seeing more than 6,000 visitors attending the festival during its five days, showing how important this space is for new generations to learn, watch, and find meaning in films,\u201d she explains.<\/b><\/p>\n

A Prestigious Awarding Ceremony at Jakarta Film Week 2024<\/b><\/p>\n

After the opening ceremony of that night, the awarding ceremony makes a stage for achieved filmmakers in various categories, such as<\/span> Global Feature Award, Global Short Award, Global Animation Award, Direction Award, Jakarta Film Fund Award, <\/i><\/b>and<\/span> Series Of The Year.<\/i><\/b> Industrial applied programs also announce the awardees for the <\/span>Producers Lab<\/i><\/b> and <\/span>Pitching Forum<\/i><\/b>.<\/span><\/i><\/p>\n

The <\/b>Global Feature Award<\/i><\/b> falls to <\/span>Memories of a Burning Body<\/i><\/b> by <\/span>Antonella Sudasassi Furniss<\/b>, from Costa Rica and Spain. \u201cThis film connects the lived experience of a woman with cinematic courage to amplify a woman\u2019s voice in a world that seeks to stifle it. The judges have decided to award this film due to its powerful endeavor to touch its audience and encourage them to be reconnected with familial values,\u201d explains the team of judges, composed of Bradley Liew, Dominique Welinski and Silvia Wong.<\/span><\/p>\n

The <\/span>Jakarta Film Fund Award<\/i><\/b> is given to <\/span>If You\u2019re Happy, I\u2019m Happy<\/i><\/b> by <\/span>Mauliya Maila<\/b>, from Indonesia. According to the judges, \u201cThis film is about a family drama with universal elements in a local context, complex but also told in a simple, beautiful manner. Judges have called this film an honest family drama and full of hope, able to touch its audience\u2019s hearts with a strong, yet down-to-earth approach.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

Other than that, here are the other awardees at Jakarta Film Week 2024: <\/span>Global Short Award <\/i><\/b>is won by<\/span> An Orphanage of Memories<\/i><\/b>; <\/span>Global Animation Award<\/i><\/b> won by<\/span> It Shouldn\u2019t Rain Tomorrow<\/i><\/b>; <\/span>Direction Award <\/i><\/b>won by<\/span> Yohanna<\/i><\/b>; and<\/span> Series of The Year<\/i><\/b> won by<\/span> Cinta Pertama Ayah<\/i><\/b>. <\/b>Special Mention<\/i><\/b> Direction Award <\/i><\/b>falls to<\/span> Suzzanna: The Queen of Black Magic.<\/i><\/b><\/p>\n

This year there have been <\/span>3 Selected Participants<\/i><\/b> Producers Lab<\/i><\/b> who will receive the opportunity to attend <\/span>Platform Busan<\/i><\/b> in <\/span>Busan International Film Festival 2025<\/b>, who are:<\/span><\/p>\n
