Shenina Cinnamon Invites Young Generation to Attend Jakarta Film Week 2021
Featuring Special Indonesian and International Films
Jakarta, 11 November 2021. The Jakarta Film Week will be held on 18-21 November, both
online and offline. The film festival, which was initiated by the Jakarta Provincial Tourism and
Creative Economy Office, will be held offline at CGV Grand Indonesia, Metropole Cinema XXI,
and Hotel Ashley. Tickets for offline events can be booked for free through LOKET, starting on 11
November 2021. Meanwhile, online screenings of films exclusively air on Vidio.com.
The Jakarta Film Week has received 277 film submissions. This number includes feature films
and short films, from various types of genres. The films came from Asia, Europe, and other
countries, with a total of 30 participating countries.
The Jakarta Film Week will open with the world premiere of the Indonesian film, Ranah 3
Warna, produced by MNC Pictures, directed by Guntur Soeharjanto. Meanwhile, Whether The
Weather is Fine, produced by Globe Studios and directed by Filipino director Carlo Francisco
Manatad will be the closing film. Whether The Weather is Fine is a co-produced film between
several countries, including the Philippines, Indonesia, Qatar, France, Singapore, and Germany,
and has premiered at the 74th Locarno Film Festival.
Apart from Ranah 3 Warna, a number of films will also world premiere at the Jakarta Film Week,
including Just Mom by Jeihan Angga produced by Hanung Bramantyo, Cadet 1947 by Rahabi
Mandra and Aldo Swastia produced by Temata Studio, a documentary Marapu Fire & Ritual by
Andrew Campbell, and Dari Hal Waktu by Agni Tirta.
There are also international films that have been featured at prestigious festivals in the world
and will premiere in Indonesia at the Jakarta Film Week, including Petite Maman by French
director Celiné Sciamma, Black Box by director Yann Gozlan, Souad by director Ayten Amin from
Egypt, Barbarian Invasion by Malaysian senior director Tan Chui Mui, Cornelio Sunny’s debut
film Death Knot, a black comedy film from Myanmar, Money Has Four Legs, a local superhero
film Mang Jose from the Philippines, a Japanese film Me and The Cult Leader, and a film from
Malta entitled Luzzu.
The Jakarta Film Week will present film programs, which are the Global Feature that contains
feature films and the Global Short that contains short films, from Indonesia and internationally.
The selected feature films and short films will compete to win the Global Feature Award and the
Global Short Award. There is also the Direction Award, a special competition for Indonesian
films that are screened during the festival.
The screening of these films is special because not all of them are generally screened in
Indonesia. As expressed by Shenina Cinnamon, the Jakarta Film Week Festival Ambassador, if
there is an opportunity to attend the film festival, it would be best to seize the opportunity as
best as possible because the films shown at this festival may not screen again in Indonesia.
“For me personally, a film festival is an event where we can see films that we may not be able to
find elsewhere easily. And we simply just come and watch the films. There is a chance that the
films are only shown once in our country, not to mention if we can meet the filmmakers directly,
which makes it so special,“ said Shenina.
As an actor and film connoisseur, Shenina enthusiastically invites everyone to enliven the
Jakarta Film Week. “Anyone, especially the younger generation, is invited to the Jakarta Film
Week. Feel the thrill of watching cool movies from many countries. Enjoy the adventurous
atmosphere from one story to the next.” she added.
Shenina Cinnamon said that she had been waiting excitedly for a number of films that will be
shown at the Jakarta Film Week, such as Barbarian Invasion, From Things of Time, Mang Jose,
Zero, Death Knot, Just Mom, and The Tales Of The Black Saint.
Another program that focuses on funding is the Jakarta Film Fund. Five short film story ideas
that have gone through a pitching forum, mentoring process from professional filmmakers,
movielab directing, scriptwriting, and image editing, are produced and will be screened during
the festival. All information regarding film screenings and how to access the Jakarta Film Week
can now be found on www.jakartafilmweek.com and LOKET starting 11 November 2021.
