Reinhard Samuel Maychaelson Gunawan (born 20 May 1993) or also known as Rein, is an Indonesian filmmaker. Well-known as a director and a screenplay writer, his work ranges from short films, web series, commercials to music videos.
Social and political issues are always the main topic. One of his short films, Happiness of the Holy and his most famous work, Udin Telekomsel, both have been screened at Jogja-NETPAC Asian Film Festival. Maychaelson recently won an award as Rising Filmmaker in Popcon Asia 2018. Maychaelson also won the Viddsee Juree Awards in 2016, with Udin Telekomsel and in the 2018 edition with his short film, Errorist of Seasons. He also won the best short film in Go Ahead Challenge. Other film festivals include XXI Short Film Festival, San Francisco Indonesian Film Festival, Los Angeles Indonesia Film Festival, Bangkok International Film Festival, Europe on Screen, etc. He also involved in a Netflix movie as the short film director in ‘Ali & Ratu-Ratu Queens’ by Lucky Kuswandi who also supervise this project.
