Paul Agusta was born in Jakarta on 1 September 1980. He was raised in Indonesia before moving to America to study film. Upon finishing film school, he returned to Indonesia to begin a varied career in film: as a film critic (which he retired from in 2007), film programmer/curator, filmmaker, writer, actor, and arts educator. His short and feature films have been screened at various international film festivals, such as the International Film Festival Rotterdam, BiFan, Vancouver International Film Festival, and Hawaii International Film Festival. He is the co-founder, with Khiva Iskak, of an acting workshop called Bengkel Akting Kuma.
