The story of Andri’s friendship, the son of a wealthy family, with Gempol, the son of a poor used-paper seller. Strictness, confinement, and loneliness make Andri jealous of Gempol, who seems free and without rules. Their friendship grows when Gempol who dreams about going to school snoops around and is mistaken for a thief. When Gempol is separated from his family due to the eviction of his place of residence, Andri and Gempol decide to go to Surabaya to find Gempol’s grandmother. Andri’s family is panicking and busy searching.
Slamet Rahardjo Djarot is an actor, screenwriter, and film director. He made his film debut as an actor in Wadjah Seorang Lelaki (1971). Slamet Rahardjo starred in many Indonesian films, such as Cinta Pertama (1973), Ranjang Pengantin (1974), Badai Pasti Berlalu (1977), and Tjoet Nja Dhien (1986). Slamet Rahardjo's directorial debut is the film Rembulan dan Matahari (1979), after which he directed several others such as Ponirah Terpidana (1983), Kembang Kertas (1984), Langitku Rumahku (1989), and Marsinah (2000).
