This film is a mosaic of Prince Diponegoro’s journey (1785-1855) after his treacherous arrest in Magelang on Sunday, March 28th, 1830. He was brought to Batavia via Semarang, a journey on the sea that he had never done before, while he was suffering from malaria. He was accompanied by his immediate family (wife, sister, and brother-in-law) and 16 followers. For 26 days at the Batavia City Hall (Stadhuis), the Prince had to wait for the Dutch-Indian government’s decision on his fate as a political prisoner.
