Exploitation films fill a specific economic role in the film ecosystem. Because of their ability to grab the attention of the audience, films like this are often placed as the focus of the industry. Together, Ekky Imanjaya and Amer Brothers will share how exploitation films become the best catalog and also the most sensual of all the paranoia that shape our humanity. Jakarta Film Week 2022 presents a discussion entitled:

“Blood, Tears, and Dusty Cinema Chairs: Exploitation Films in Indonesia”

and the launch of a book by Ekky Imanjaya entitled:

“The Real Guilty Pleasures: Reconsidering New Order Transnational Exploitation Cinema”

Ekky Imanjaya
Ekky Imanjaya is a full time lecturer at the Film Study Program, Bina Nusantara University. Ekky completed his doctoral studies in Film Studies at the University of East Anglia in Norwich, England. His studies resulted in a thesis titled The Cultural Traffic of Classic Indonesian Exploitation Cinema. Some of his books include Mujahid Film: Usmar Ismail (2021), and 99 Film Madani (2022), with Hikmat Darmawan.
Azzam Fi Rullah (Amer Bersaudara)
Azzam Fi Rullah is a young filmmaker and one of the co-founders of the Kolong Sinema collective. Goyang Kubur Mandi Darah aka I Dance on Your Grave (2018) won the best short thriller award at the LA Underground Film Forum festival at Hollywood Boulevard, Los Angeles.
Deka (Amer Bersaudara)
Putra Merdeka aka Deka is a comic artist who has a special interest in B films. Horror-family drama comics. He began to realize his dream to make horror films as one of the Amer Brothers in the films Kuntilanak Pecah Ketuban (2018) and Rangsangan Gaib (2019).
Ifan Ismail (moderator)
Isfan started out as an onion cutter in Ada Apa Dengan Cinta? (AADC) to become a screenwriter for Extravaganza, Habibie & Ainun, and Sultan Agung. He attended the ASEAN in Residence and Kyoto Filmmakers Lab 2014. Since 2017, he has served as Program Coordinator for Kineforum, an alternative program and screening room under the Film Committee of the Jakarta Arts Council. He also serves as Senior Development at Skriptura, Visinema's creative and writing division.
