The Complete List of the Four Award Winners at Jakarta Film Week 2021
The international film festival, Jakarta Film Week, which was held on 18-21 November 2021, has ended. The judges judged the films that were screened during the festival. Of the four award categories, the following is the list of winners:
Global Feature Category
This film from France by Céline Sciamma tells the story of the friendship of two little girls. The meeting of the two girls begins with Nelly taking a walk into the forest around the house. Unexpectedly, the friend Nelly found is like her mother in her childhood.
This Black Comedy film from Myanmar by Maung Sun tells a chaotic story filled with comedy and reminds viewers of Myanmar’s rich cinema history and struggles with censorship.
Global Short Category
This drama film from Indonesia by Gwai Lou tells the story of Ani, a schoolgirl of humble origins who receives a strange offer through a dating app that she has just signed up for. Ani immediately talks about it to Orked, her best friend.
This documentary film from Indonesia by Lidia Afrilita and David Darmadi tells the story of hundreds of cows being herded to a landfill site. The landfill is deliberately used as a place to live for these cows because their owner lives far from the location and relies more on human food scraps to feed them rather than looking for pasture. The fate of these cows is the same as other grass-eating cows that eventually end up under the butcher’s knife.
Direction Award Category
This Documentary Film from Indonesia by Agni Tirta tells the story of Fajar Suharno, a theater maestro in the 80’s to 90’s period who held a show entitled “Geger Uwong Ngoyak Macan” about an event that eliminated people who were considered to be thugs. The show was held just the day before the massacre took place.
This horror film from Indonesia by Cornelio Sunny is based on the mythical story of suicides in rural Indonesia. A mother’s warning before her death failed to keep her children from estrangement. Two brothers, Hari and Eka returned to seek the truth behind their mother’s reputation.
Jakarta Film Fund
This film tells the story of Mulyani who is a domestic worker in a relationship with Reza, a construction worker. Within six hours, Reza will lose access to the elite housing complex where they work. They have to sneak up on security guards, absurd elitists, and face the consequences of violating Mulyani’s employment contract.
This film by William Adiguna tells a misunderstanding and a secret agenda that triggers an uncontrollable chain of events between a middle-aged couple and a teenage couple one night in the Chinatown area.
