Petite Maman, The Story of a Little Girl among Friends and Mother’s Past
Petite Maman, a French film, directed by Céline Sciamma, was screened for the first time in Indonesia at the international film festival, Jakarta Film Week 2021. The screening, which was held at CGV Grand Indonesia, was also attended by representatives of Misbar.id, as the party that brought the film Petite Maman to Indonesia.
The film targeted at children and adults aims to bring people into the perspective of children. This film wants to bring every audience back to their childhood when they see the world from an innocent point of view.
The point of view of a child who looks at the figures around her, including the figures of a mother, a grandmother, and a new best friend. The connections between them lead us to see the genuineness of the relationships between children.
“We see the premise of this film is simple, but we know that Céline Sciamma always offers other things from the films she makes,” said Gisan, a representative from Misbar.id, Saturday, 20 November 2021.
Interestingly, at the end of the story, the audience will be left wondering about the relationship between the two child characters in this film. This is what made Misbar.id finally interested in bringing Petite Maman to be screened in Indonesia.
“We feel that this film lived up to expectations. Not long after that, we contacted Petite Maman’s sales agent and tried to present it in Indonesia with a wider reach,” Gisan continued.
Misbar.id as the party who brought this film to Indonesia also plans to hold a Petite Maman roadshow to a wider area, considering Petite Maman has the story type enjoyable by audiences from all walks of life.
Petite Maman itself is a film that tells the story of two little girls, which features a unique story. Where one of the girls turned out to befriend her own mother as if when she was a little girl. The film is based on Céline Sciamma’s imagination as the director to explore the questions she might have had had she met her mother as a child.
